A perfect example...

of why Religion is the bane of our society.

It is Kate's 8th birthday in late July but with school holidays intervening, she gave out invites to her classmates on Thursday for her party.  This party is a month away.

One little girl came up to Niki on Friday and said "Sorry, but I wont be able to come to Kate's birthday party because we have Church".

In 24hrs, a parent has stopped their child attending a birthday party in 4 weeks time because they have to go to Church!

Lighten up people!!  Let the kids have fun!!!

Some people take religious committment more seriously than others.

I personally am not in that boat, but I do respect other people's right to do that if they so wish.

But thats my point...

An adult is enforcing their religious beliefs on a child. They force the child to church every weekend (clearly a kids birthday party with a months notice is too much to ask) and then they indoctrinate the child.

If an adult turns to God... thats their choice, but brainwashing kids is something that concerns me greatly.

Maybe you should have been more considerate to not plan a birthday party on the holy day.

The whole ideal of most religions is about bringing up children within the beliefs of said religion so they can live life to the fullest blah blah blah..

Since when is a Saturday the Holy Day?

So what have you taught your kids about religion clay?

Absolutely nothing.

I say not a word.

Yet, my girls go to Scripture at school and I say nothing (albeit thru gritted teeth)

And when my niece bought them children bibles I was furious and "had words" with Niki, but I have said nothing.

No "For" and no "Against" comments.

The only time I subtly rejected the religious issue was when Brookie asked me to read her a story and she chose the above mentioned bible to which i said "how about something else".

Whilst "I" am anti-religion, I live by my creed which is not to brain wash children.

So, now my children are "believers" but in a mild way... and guess what, its only because the church influences the Dept of Ed to make it so,... not by their own choice.

That's good you don't seek to persuade them the other way. There are so many people who believe Christians brainwash their children preferring instead the so called "open minded" approach, but are more than happy to "brainwash" their own children into anti-Christian sentiment and be completely close minded about it themselves. So I admire the stance you have taken.

Though perhaps you're not being entirely consistent. Why were you so furious with your niece? Shouldn't it be a good thing that she was giving your kids the opportunity to check out all the options, including the Bible?

I'm also not sure what you mean about your kids being believers "not by their choice". Just because someone else has had an influence in teaching them, doesn't necessarily mean they didn't choose it of their own free will.

We all bring up our children in a particular way, I'm sure you do too. But doesn't make it brainwashing.
