Something similar happened for the Sydney olympics, but I suppose the penetration of little devices and the synchronization of systems wasn't so great back then. I do remember having to do an update for my computer to get the auto-daylightsavings adjustment changed for that year. About the only system upgrade I ever had to get from Microsoft Australia.
