If this was Bambi Chases Butterflies, then yes if Bambi drops the F-Bomb well you'd be upset.
But no, this game is a MA 15+ Violence riddled game called "House of the Dead: Overkill" and you can see what a wholesome game it is from the screenshots.
Seriously, if you let your kids play this and THEN complain about the swearing, you're an idiot!

And the winner is...
Dubai!
Yes, I have accepted the role and this little blogger is off to the Middle East. I don't like to blog about work too much here, but there are exceptions!
Moving to another country is definately one of those!
I looked for work in Sydney, and to be honest there is not alot out there and those companies that were hiring were siting the economic crisis to slash salary expectations. The salaries on offer, I was getting five years ago. Not a great step if you have a mortgage and if I had a Sydney job, we probably would have had to sell the house and downsize.
However, there was never a choice, with the last of my Sydney offers fizzling out at the same time I got the Dubai offer and with nothing else, it was the choice to be made.
Having said that, I did want the Dubai role and we have been spared the choice of taking the exciting but scary move or staying safe in Sydney and slugging it out and making ends meet.
For all of us, the biggest issue is the moving away and creating distance with family and friends. We will be facebooking, blogging and skyping as much as possible, but the reality is is that you're half a world away.
We do get flights back as part of the package and we will be coming home for Christmas each year and perhaps depending on the cash, in the Dubai summer break which is in July / August. We will though be taking the opportunity to see the rest of the world, mainly Europe and I have a keen sense to see India as well, which is only 3hrs away.
The next step is the uprooting and moving... I will need to be in Dubai in February sometime and will be madly prepping the house for renting before I go. Then Niki & the girls will be following 2-3 mths afterwards depending on how quickly I can set up a house, car and the visa's come through.
All very exciting and its going to be a big change....
So, I have perhaps blogged my last rant about CityRail and the like, but Lime Kettles will continue and will "On Tour" so to speak, so you will be able to follow an odd Aussie bloke's journey into the Middle East.
Niki mentioned that she would like to set up a more family orientated blog as well... so will post a cross link when (if) that gets up.
Now... where did I put that Arabic phrase book....

Gaza Strip
Another war in the Gaza Strip... There is fault on both sides and at this point after thousands of years of conflict, its absolutely stupid to try and put "the blame" on one side or the other.
This is why I found Daily Telegraph writer Piers Akerman's article in yesterday's paper so repugnant.
To think that the deaths of Palestinian children is but a mere TV Media stunt is disgusting. Yes, there are terrorists in Palestine, but sending in armed soldiers and tanks is NOT the solution. Children are dying at the hands of the Israeli's and that is a fact that should be pointed out to us in our safe Sydney homes.
It is not a sign that the Palestinians are right and the Israeli's are wrong, its a clear sign that the fighting must stop.
The sooner that Australian media can simply portray the facts and not allow personal views to colour its reporting the better.

Internet Censorship
Internet censorship. The Australian Government wants to "clean feed" the net to ensure that all "objectionable" material is made unavailable... it is a complete furphy and impossible to achieve.
Now there is a movement to stop social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace to remove material of a racial or sexist nature. I am not a racist, but come on people... I think we need to realise that there are racist bigots of all sorts in every part of the world and you cannot legislate against stupidity.
In the age of printed media, we used to try and ban subversive political, racial and sexually explicit material. Given it was a material medium, it was somewhat successful but at the end of the day those who wanted to produce and/or read that kind of material were still able to.
Now in the digital age where it is impossible to stop the physical production of material, it cannot be stopped. I think that people should realise no matter what your sense of right and wrong is and no matter how good you think people are there are people who have a different view to you.
Rather than trying to legislate people into good moral decency and campaign against websites to monitoring the millions of words of content that they host how about we focus on education programs and ensuring that we eradicate the bigotry and an ability to turn the other cheek when people sprout rubbish.

Richard Marsland
A very funny man, radio's Richard Marsland seemingly took his own life over the weekend.
I was a big fan of his and his work on Get This on TripleM and when in Melbourne on business I enjoyed his most recent work on the Melbourne breakfast show.
But the point of this post is that for some reason he killed himself and for a person who seemingly had such an outward personality in the media, you have to ask why.
We all have our troubles, but take it from me, talking is alot better than doing the ultimate act.

Glad my taxpayers dollars aren't being used...
...to buy out bad debts like they are in the US!
The US Congress is debating the need to spend $700Bn of tax payers dollars to bail out bad debts from its financial institutions.
$700 billion dollars!
That is the largest rescue package ever since the Great Depression and is an alarming fact that the US economy - of which we're tied to the hip - is in severe trouble.
Of course, with the markets failing, investors move into secure / solid asset classes like Gold and Oil and the price of oil surged upwards by $25 a barrel which pundits here in Australia are saying will increase our bowser cost by 25 cents a litre.
$2 / litre petrol is not far away people!
So whilst our taxes are not being spent on this farcical payout, the trickle down effects on our costs of living will be huge.
Funny, I heard an ad on the radio this morning for a special on LPG gas conversion for your car... timely ;-)

Why the AIG bailout is bad news for all...
OK, some seriousness today...
The collapse of one of the worlds leading insurers AIG and its subsequent rescue by the US Federal Reserve in exchange for 80% of the companies ownership is very alarming.
I am not sure if Australians are aware of AIG other than the fact that they are the sponsors of Manchester United, but the reality is that many Australian corporates rely on AIG for insurance and the collapse of such a large entity will spell operational cost increases for those corporates and hence those costs will be passed on to their customers - i.e us punters.
To put it into terms we Australians understand - HIH Insurance collapsed leaving debts of $4.5Bn. AIG needed A$107Bn to bail it out... roughly 25 times the size... and yet we Australians still spit when we hear the acronym HIH.
But the government bailed out AIG in the US and now own 80% of the company. Whilst that is a good thing in the short term, how can such a large company now be owned by the government and continue to operate... I believe that what the US Federal Reserve has done is stopped AIG imploding but it will still die a slow death and ease the sudden pain on the economy.
But what next? If AIG has collapsed, then what about the other big players in finance? How many companies need help? How many will get it? And what happens if the US Federal Reserve continues to buy up ailing big companies?

Greg Bird
OK, this post won't mean much to foreign readers (and that includes people from Victoria) but there has been an unsavoury incident in which Australian League player Greg Bird 'allegedly' glassed his American girlfriend in the face causing her to have a cut eye and a fractured eye socket.
Then Bird told police it was his flatmate and apparent life long best mate that did the damage and not him... (he's a nice guy huh!)
Now he has appeared before the courts and will be on trial in October after the Grand Final. His Cronulla club has stood him down and I am sure they will sack him if proven guilty.
My point of this post though is that not only because of this incident, Greg Bird would have to be one of the biggest grubs in rugby league... or even in society. He is under investigation for punching a woman in a nightclub in the off season and he also was suspended for 10 weeks in 2006 for kicking a rival player in the head. Not a tap... a full on kick.
Looking at Bird, he was a skinny kid who played in the halves but looking at him now he has bulked up tremendously and alongside his equally grubby team mate Paul Gallen, they have the nickname as "the Bruise Brothers". These two guys have gone from skinny nobodies to big angry men in a very short space of time and I am now questioning as to whether they're on the steroids.
Both have anger management issues, both have been in off and on field incidents that are unsavoury and both have bulked up markedly in the past couple of seasons.
And then it dawns on me that we havent heard a peep from the NRL on drug testing players for steroids for ages... there used to be alot of stories about the drug testers trying to catch drug cheats but that all seems to have stopped hitting the press.

News meanderings...
Haven't blogged about stuff in the media this week... one, I am not at the PC enough to warrant much blogging and two, the news is saturated with Olympics coverage.
However one story big in Sydney (not sure about anywhere else) is the whale (called Colin? WTF?) who is trapped in Pittwater and will be euthenaised (sp?) later today. This baby whale has been abandoned by his pod, is trapped in the Pittwater, is starving and has been attacked by sharks.
I think rather than let nature take its course - by slowly starving or by being eaten by sharks - the vets have made the correct decision to end its suffering. But the outcry has been large, but I just don't get it.
We put down dogs and cats every day for the simple reason we can't find homes for them, but whales are some sort of special case in which people seem to want to do special things. Whales are special animals, sure, but what can we do?
I am happy for people to protest Japanese whaling, but this is not the same... a baby animal is suffering and has no chance for a normal and happy life... best to end it quickly and peacefully.
Sad, but thats life.

Holidaying? South Ossettia looks nice...
Channel 9 news is awash with Golden Glory (sounds suss right?) and we're all basking in the glow of the nations obsession with swimming (there are other sports right?) and then we have some ads and then some minor local news with Morris Iemma in the doldrums once again about some failed High Speed Rail Link consortium... poor old Morris can't take a trick. If the project is underfunded by the bidder by $2.5Bn (yes BILLION) you cancel it... but thats a bad thing for Morris isnt it... the poor plebites from Penrith will have to catch trains that take an hour to the city.
Until we invent Public Transport that bends the space / time continuim then we're a bit stuck aren't we... Until Dr Who becomes Minister for Transport, I guess we'll have to make do with people in Penrith taking an hour to get to the city.
Anyways, I digress...
Just before the sport, there was this little story about a place called Ossettia and the southern bit being attacked from the north by Russians.
Apparently that means North Ossettia is Russian? I am only assuming...

So, anyway, some Ossettians were keen to head North but the South wouldnt let them go, and the Georgians (remember, no Olympics have been held in Georgia, except for Atlanta 96) were really keen for them to stay and big bad Vlad Putin told them to piss off and sent in the troops across the border (from Tennessee or North Carolina?).

I have searched the various news sites around the place and cannot find a photo of anything yet it reports that there are photos of Martian Poo... can someone check the calendar? It may be April 1st.
Idiots.
Now don't get me wrong... I believe that we are not alone for the simple fact that it is a statistical impossibility. But come on, someone laid a big turd down near the Mars landing craft? Surely an advanced species has plastic bags and pooper scoopers to clean up afterwards!!

Child Porn Busts In Australia
The local arrest of approx 90 Australians as part of a global crackdown on Child Pornography via the net is one that I am so happy about and if there was ever a case for judicial castration, then this is it.
Sexual exploitation of children to me is the worst and abhorrent crime that can be committed... it goes beyond my comprehension as to why any adult would get off on such vile material.
Then you have this from one of the arrested men... a police officer no less:
Firstly, children are not "underage women". They are children, you fuck. You are even objectifying these unfortunate kids as "underage women".
Secondly, don't fucking pass of surfing the net for Child Porn as a "challenge". If you want a challenge on the internet, find yourself a good computer game. Typing "Lolita" into Google is not a challenge.

Back at work today....
OK, back at the desk… been away Friday, Monday and yesterday from the office and to be honest I haven’t missed much here. Everyone is just waiting for the ball to drop and get this deal done that will effectively make everyone redundant or give them a new role with a new direction. I think 80% of people will get pink slips and yet I don’t think I will, but I am so close to asking for one…
But anyways, I hope everyone enjoyed the photos and videos below… it took an age yesterday to host them all up on Blogger & YouTube. Today the girls have slept in badly and Niki has kept them home. Kate in particular is washed out in a big way. She slept solidly from say 1pm yesterday to 9am this morning with only a brief waking period around 7pm for dinner.
Outside of work and the family’s trip, I have been following a couple of news stories that I would have normally commented on.
The major one being Bill Henson and his artwork of nude child photography. Difficult issue this one… on one hand I know Henson’s work is legitimately art. He is not a child pornographer and he should not be charged. I know that his artwork was put together with the consent of parents and those children who were in his works that have grown up are pro his work. But there has to be a line drawn somewhere and I believe it opens a Pandora’s Box with the fact that future photographers with a deviant streak could use the art defence as a way to legitimise soft porn involving children.
My view is that the protection of all children should be the focus of any ruling / legislation / banning and that you cannot have these grey areas when it comes to this. I am not a book burner or oppressor of the arts community, but I think for the benefit of future children, people in those groups should put their hands up and say artwork such as Henson’s is dangerous territory and one in which restraint should be considered.
The world is a landscape of shades of grey and nothing is ever black or white, but in this case, I think we should err on the side of conservatism and say any photographic works of children posing naked are not on.

Town Hall Station
Town Hall Station, particularly at peak hour has always given me the creeps... so many people, such a confined space you'd hate to think of a bombing or fire or even an accident in which someone goes under a train...
Luckily since I changed jobs I dont have to get off at Town Hall but going through there it is the pits still - and I simply stay on board.
This article sums it up nicely.
And yes, the noise pollution from the "community service" announcements is horrendous as well and simply adds confusion.
If there was anywhere in Australia that was a disaster waiting to happen, its Town Hall.

What is it… is it just me? 10,000 people have died in Burma apparently from a Cyclone nobody heard about and yet the most pressing things in todays press are: 1. Wayne Carey’s charge sheet, 2. Corey goes into the BB House and 3. Mischa Barton has cellulite and is pressing action against the Aussie paparazzi who took the photos of her topless.
I have seen the photos Mischa and what is it they say… a picture’s worth a 1000 words?
I know I am beating on this old drum again, but the internet has so much more beneficial use and people can access all the celeb-goss they want, but can we at least leave the NEWS websites for items that are NEWS WORTHY? It’s a chicken and egg thing… people will tell you that stories like Mischa Barton earn the most clicks and hence are the most “profitable” in the web-advertising area but I counter that with if you keep putting this stuff on the top of the site in bold, then of course its going to get the most clicks...
Case in point, this mornings front page of smh.com.au shows that the #1 story is Wayne Carey... rocketing in at 9:24am as "Breaking News". At 9:44am, the story of the deaths of 10,000 Burmese people comes in, but doesnt displace Wayne Carey nor the picture lead story that some guy sued for the right to take his wife's surname as his own.
See what I mean... and then look at the picture news below... Tom Cruise, Kylie Minogue, a washed up footballer, Tom Hanks and a general "Mag Watch"... all very very important stuff.
And I thought the Sydney Morning Herald, and its sister paper in Melbourne The Age were supposed to be the daily papers that prided themselves on journalism...
