Weekend Wrap

Weekend Wrap

A beautiful weekend weather wise and we had a good one to match it!  Saturday, the girls had an ice skating party to go to so I headed to the shops to buy my mums birthday present and also spent a bit too much on myself as well!  Then it was on to cricket and we wrapped up the Minor Premiership with one round still to play by beating Wenty Waratahs by about 80 odd runs… I took a neat catch in the slips as well and then it was onto the pub for some victory drinks!

Showed my age though by being in bed on Saturday night by 10pm after a long week and a long weekend last finally caught up with me… can’t be a party boy every day! Lol.

Sunday I mowed the lawns, clipped the hedge and spent some time out in the sun and then went to Mum & Dad’s for Mums birthday lunch which was nice and relaxing.  Then we ducked over and to my mate Joe’s place to see his new baby boy Adrian.  It was great to see them and they both, Joe in particular, are very happy at their new addition!  Well done guys!

On a sadder note, other friends of ours aren’t doing too well with Scott & Linda having problems with their little baby Jacob.  Their story was actually told in the Sunday papers this weekend and we’re all thinking about them.

Wollongong - The Hotbed of well... beds!

Wow, who would have thought that the Wollongong area was such a hot bed of scandal! This whole thing about a 32yr old single-mum who was a Town Planner for the Council there having affairs with developers and subsequently approving their development applications has finally reached Premier Morris Iemma's office.

When the wheel starts turning, it certainly gains momentum doesnt it! 32yr old woman probably being taken advantage of by devious developers involved in low grade criminal activity explodes into a connection with a member of the council on sexual harrassment charges who has just landed a plumb job for one of the Premiers cabinet who himself has been known to be subject to sexual harrassment and now the Premier is in the cross hairs.

Who knew that local politics was so seedy! *feigns shock*

Funny how all this stuff comes out with the Government in disarray and waiting for a credible opposition to knock them off... but thats still the issue, the NSW State Liberals are still proverbial limp lettuce at the moment.

The Missing Link...

... is a piece of "brown algae" (read: poo) in Sydney Harbour!

Rejoice!

Story

Indian Premier League

OK, the draft for the Indian Premier League was held yesterday… perhaps “draft” isn’t the right word, but rather “auction”.  Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds earned himself US$1.47M in his own pocket for playing Twenty20 Cricket topped the bidding.  I just cannot fathom where this money is coming from… why are we paying such huge amounts for what is at the moment a version of cricket in its infancy and really is a bit of a hit and giggle!

This article though sums up some of my thoughts on this.  Why?  Why can India – a country of extreme contrasts between the rich and poor – tolerate such expenditure?  It just absolutely stokes me about the dollars dealed out.

Here is the list of who got what… (link) Perhaps the most obvious oddity to me, not picked up in the press, is that Cameron White – who I watched on tele last night leading Victoria against NSW in front of 3 men and a dog at the SCG, picked up $546K – more than Australian captain Ricky Ponting.

You have to wonder where this will be in 5 years time??

The News is not good...

Normal transmission I mentioned yesterday, but what is normal?  A read of the papers today and I am pretty much feel a bit down about how much bad news there is around.  None of these things warrant a full review, but lets take a look at some of the “low lights”.

Firstly, a man has been charged in the UK for murder but his defence states that he didn’t murder the lady, but instead simply had sex with her corpse or as she was dying of stab wounds.  He apparently didn’t notice!

Secondly, in Sydney a woman kills her 2 children again via stabbing and then serious injures herself in an apparent suicide attempt.  The father comes home in time to save her, but the poor children are dead.

Then we have the trial starting for former NSW Aboriginal Affairs minister Milton Orkopoulous on 34 child sex and drugs charges.  Remember this is a seemingly educated man who was a Minister in NSW Parliament.

Is it the power of the media and the drive to see the webpages filled with fresh and new content that this stuff gets highlighted?  But perhaps that is not a bad thing as these things are undoubtedly happening and hence it is a mirror of society that historical times didn’t communicate to the people as quickly when the web wasn’t so fluid.  Or is it a bit of both in which the media pump more stories out but the stories are getting more frequent and horrific?

No Post Today

Work, life, weirdness dominates my psyche at the present... too distracted to read a newspaper or have a comment on world events.

I am sure you will all live and I hope normal transmission resumes tomorrow.

:-P

PS - the whole blogger dashboard has changed and I have lost all the nifty buttons to publish photos, links etc? Any other bloggers out there experiencing the same?

Weekend - A Big One...

Lets just say that this weekend passed in a blur of alcoholic beverages…

Friday afternoon… catch up with old work colleagues… drink too much… lose track of time… home at 2am.

Saturday awake bleary eyed in time to get to my cricket match in which I scored a nice 32 out of a total of 6/236 at stumps. If you’re interested Tommy, the knees held up through my 90min innings but seized up once the pads came off and I sat down.

Then with said bung knees I went off to a mates Bux Night on Saturday Night. It was billed as a big one and we didn’t disappoint. Not only was my mate Wayne getting married and his brother Simon put on a good session of food, grog and “entertainment” but it was announced that another mate Angelo was going to be a first time Dad and the fact that all the old boys had gathered together it was an appropriate time to announce. His wife Karen is only 11 weeks along, but it was too good an opportunity to pass up.

And we didn’t miss! In a session that went until 3:30am, we celebrated being 35 years old and too old to be in a nightclub by drinking our collective weights in Bourbon, Scotch and Beer. Needless to say, it was a good night but bloody hell was Sunday messy!! I took little Brookie to the Springwood Pool on Sunday afternoon at about 3pm and I wallowed in the water with her nursing a thumping head ache and the knees were beyond reproach… I have made a new friend and his name is Voltaren!

Pictures of shame below!

(edit - Blogger not receiving pics... will put them up later)
